Blue Notes Vol 3
Our search for the lost pearls of blue note-infused Modern jazz of the forties and fifties of the 20th century, as presented in two previously releases box-sets, has obviously hit a nerve. Since „more is more and less is a bore“ we hereby present twenty more musically exciting albums with fantastic soloists, including a few rare masterpieces from the early years of stars like Jimmy Smith and Bud Powell.
Trumpeters Howard McGhee, Thad Jones, Art Farmer, Clifford Brown, Donald Byrd,
Lee Morgan and Kenny Dorham shine brightly and prove that there was room next to Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis. Sax-players J.R. Monterose, Hank Mobley, Lou Donaldson, Jimmy Heath, Clifford Jordan, Brew Moore and Jackie McLean are also proud representatives of the art of their instrument. Apart from Jimmy Smith, the originator of the Hammond organ boom of the late fifties, this box sets presents fine recordings by his disciples Freddie Roach and Baby Face Willete. A fabulous cocktail of soulful and
ambitious Hard Bop with a dash of Bossa Nova thrown in for good measure.
